Welcome!

This site is dedicated to gathering all of the Internet's comic book annotations and bibliographies in one place.

Thanks to Wizard Magazine, who "recommended checking out" this "wonderful site". Thanks, Wizard!

Why do I do this?

  1. Because I really enjoy annotations and bibliographies.
  2. Because they're hard to find -- many annotations and bibliographies are difficult to find on the web, or have only been posted on newsgroups like rec.art.comics.misc, rec.arts.comics.dc.universe, or alt.comics.batman (or a host of others).  Without doing an extensive search, it's nearly impossible to know they're even out there.
  3. Because my brother has put together some truly amazing bibliographies for Mike Carey, Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Kevin Smith, and Matt Wagner.  I thought I'd post those and then gather others so people who wanted could find them in one place.

SITE UPDATES

Jan 4th update completed.  Changes:

  1. BIG NEWS!!  Keith Smith has done a massive, incredibly impressive "index and collector's guide" to Eerie Publications.  Just two quick stats for you:  it's 195 pages (!) and 88,836 words.

It includes the index itself plus a brief history of Eerie Publications, a checklist, brief bios of the artists, a listing of other personnel who worked at the company, artist & story cross-indexes, a pre-code index, and (finally) his favorite stories.

This is a seriously impressive piece of work.  Check out the word doc here, or the HTML version here (caution:  long load times depending on the speed of your connection).

2008 Updates

Nov 16th update completed.  Changes:

  1. Loaded latest updates to all the bibliographies written by Michael Karpas.

Oct 5th update completed.  Sizable update this time, since I've been a bit remiss in making changes to the site lately.  Changes:

  1. Eamonn Clarke has written a set of annotations to the Leviathan by Ian Edginton and D’Israeli.

  2. Eamonn Clarke has also written annotations for the heretofore un-annotated Judgement Day series by Alan Moore.  This marks the THIRTEENTH series of Alan Moore's that has been annotated.

  3. Richard Arndt has updated his Warren Magazines checklist.  You can get it at the Richard Arndt page.

  4. Richard Arndt has updated his Web of Horror checklist.  You can get it at the Richard Arndt page.

  5. Loaded latest updates to all the bibliographies written by Michael Karpas.

  6. While not an annotation... let me put in a plug for Sequart Research & Literacy Organization's Mutant Cinema: The X-Men Trilogy from Comics to Screen.  I think they do a nice job on their site (though I haven't yet had a chance to look at the book).  The book is billed as the "the definitive unauthorized study of the popular movie saga, including:
    • The history of X-Men comic books;
    • Previous adaptations, including early cartoon appearances, the successful 1990s animated series, and initial attempts to bring the mutants to the big screen;
    • The development process for each film, including behind-the-scenes stories, interviews with the screenwriters, and details on omitted scenes and storylines;
    • Detailed scene-by-scene examinations of each film and the comic book stories that infuse every aspect of the movies;
    • Critical and fan receptions of each film, plus box office performances;
    • What the future may hold for the franchise; and
    • Tips on some essential X-Men reading."

Jul 20th update completed.  Changes:

  1. BIG NEWS!!  Eamonn Clarke has written a set of annotations to the three Scarlet Traces graphic novels by Ian Edginton and Matt Brooker aka D’Israeli.  The first volume is a fairly faithful adaptation of The War of the Worlds itself. The second book in the series (although it was published first), Scarlet Traces, is set ten years later in a dramatically altered England and features a murder investigation and some unpleasant events.  The third book is Scarlet Traces: The Great Game which takes the action forward another thirty years to a time when hostilities between the two worlds have resumed.
